The little differences between cities fascinate me.  Calgary has ravenous magpies to replace the seagulls of Vancouver.  Instead of syringe wrappers strewn all over the sidewalks I find meat-stick wrappers (which look eerily similar).  It's amazing what the minutiae of a city reveals...
